Another 30 Rock Night?

Pundits, speculators and fools alike have targeted 30 Rock and Tina Fey as probable Emmy winners again. The Emmys do have a knack for repetition, sort of like an annoying advertisement that doesn’t seem to stop (Geico excluded…at least that’s some repeated originality). 30 Rock seizing the award once more would be like…well, scripted.

As I sit here on Emmy’s D-Day, I can’t help but notice an intuitive feeling burgeoning inside my spleen. It’s almost as if the rebellious side of me has awoken, telling me, “This will be the year it all changes!” I still have 30 Rock in my pool, but I’m oh so tempted to pick Entourage. Hasn’t 30 Rock won enough rocks already?

Entourage put forth a bit of an uneven season, opting for the pernicious side of Hollywood fame. Golden boy Vince Chase was suddenly unemployed, a has-been and relying on his friend/manager/romantic/brains/idiot (GO AFTER SLOAN!) Eric for whatever straw he could pull off the barren camel’s second hump. Some people despised that storyline, preferring the usual happy-go-lucky carefree mentality of our favorite band of Hollywood crashers. Others – myself included – found it refreshing, as it delved deeper into the darkness of fame unhinged.

This dichotomy among Entourage viewers could mean prosperity for the HBO show, because the more “strong support” it gets, the more votes. That could just be what it needs to boot 30 Rock off the third rock from the sun.

Then again…in a year where Tina Fey dominated headlines by impersonating Sarah Palin (or was it Sarah Palin impersonating Tina Fey. Ah, it’s so hard to tell them apart!), the competition might have as good a chance as a caribou lost somewhere on a bridge to nowhere. I don’t have the guts to pick Entourage, but maybe I can persuade one of you to do it for me!
