Will Best Actor Emmy be Breaking Bad?

breaking_badLast year Bryan Cranston shocked the entertainment establishment by stealing the Best Actor in a Drama Emmy. This year, he’s challenged by a host of leading men, hoping for their first Emmy gold.

Breaking Bad has always been known as that “weird show after Mad Men,” and it seems like no one watches it. The ratings bear out those point. But evidently the voters watch it and they saw something in Cranston’s performance in the drug drama.

This year, there are plenty of top actors with the chance to dethrone Cranston. John Hamm has a strong to take the award for his portrayal of Don Draper in Mad Men. While Hamm is well-liked by all fans of the show, some think he’s almost too stoic and question whether his lack dialogue could be misconstrued for lack of acting.

Michael C. Hall plays the lovable serial killer Dexter in Dexter, a show that continues to gain popularity. Some think this might be his year. Simon Baker has quickly earned a huge following for his work in The Mentalist, and some wonder if the hearthrob can pull off an upset. This is Hugh Laurie’s fourth nomination for House, and while it could be his year, the voters might be tired of his performance. If voters really really love therapy sessions, then they might be inclined to choose Gabriel Byrne for his work in In Treatment.

This category could very well make or break most pools. Who will win? It will fascinating to find out.
