Best Actor.
Best Actor is shaping up as a career award for Jeff Bridges. The long-time actor has been nominated for five Oscars, but never won the gold. His role as a washed up country singer has earned rave reviews, and Kit Bowen predicts he’ll win over George Clooney and Colin Firth.

Bryce Van Kooten sees the list of Oscar nominees and sees plenty of performances that got snubbed. His list includes “Star Trek” for Best Picture, Matt Damon’s for Best Actor in “The Informant!” and Zoe Saldana for her portrayal of Neytiri in “Avatar.” Who do you think got snubbed?

Before the nominees were announced, Adam Spunberg had a good idea what would be snubbed. Writing on Monday evening, Spunberg said that Viggo Mortensen and Zooey Deschanel put in just a handful of first-class performances that the Academy overlooked.

Adam Spunberg offers a thorough examination of the Best Actor award and says that George Clooney deserves the Oscar for “Up in the Air.”
Fueled by director Guy Ritchie’s fast-paced action and Robert Downey Jr.’s uncanny skill at inventing his own unique spin on his characters, “Sherlock Holmes” thoroughly entertains from beginning to end, Kit Bowen writes.
The new movie “Crazy Heart” has a performance from Jeff Bridges that might enough for him to win his first Oscar. T-Bone Burnett might also be in line for an Oscar for composing the music. But Kit Bowen says the movie is a retread and doesn’t leave a lasting impression.
When the Golden Globe nominees were announced last weekend, the Coen Brothers film “A Serious Man” was left out. Lead actor Michael Stuhlbarg did garner a nomination for Best Actor though. Jeremy Martin reviews the film and discusses whether or not the snubbing is valid.

Rob Marshall’s latest film musical “Nine” offers a slew of potential acting nominations with past Oscar winners Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cottilard, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, and Sophia Loren. But while the film is fun and entertaining, it falls short of delivering the “wow” factor, writes Kit Bowen.
